I left the Woods and ran through Uptown, across the University grounds, and into the Merchant District to get the information on how to close the gates to Mandy. When I arrived, I saw The Unnamable in the distance with its nearby gate glowing brightly in the cool night air.
Mandy was crouched over picking up her Witch trophy when I yelled to her that she needed to enter the gate and come back through before it could be closed. She yelled back that she had already been through the gate. Wow, she doesn't waste any time! She only had a short amount of time left to close the gate. I explained the clues I had found in the Woods and she turned to perform the procedure. And then, from across the Merchant District, I saw the gate disappear.
Mandy bent down and picked up a small humming crystal, the physical remains of what was once The Unnamable gate. She stowed it away in her leather bag.
Another monster surge, this time producing a bulbous Dark Young monster and a flying Nightgaunt at the Independence Square gate. The Mi-Go that had been the first monster to come through the Independence Square gate took to the sky and was now flying above the town looking for a victim. The Vampire was still stalking Independence Square.
We knew we had to close all the gates that opened in the town, but Independence Square was too overrun with monsters. And each monster that emerged from the gate seemed to be more dreadful than the one before it. We didn't stand a chance there. So we decided to go enlist some help. Mandy had become good friends with Joe Diamond, a Private Eye who recently came to town to solve his own dark mystery.
